PARKLAND LEAGUE BASEBALL DIVISIONS

In 2010 Orefield will be playing baseball in the Parkland League and the Upper/Lower Macungie League. This page provides an overview of those various age groups. The boys play in five different divisions according to age as of May 1st. The divisions are: PYL T-ball (born between 5/1/03 and 4/30/05), PYL Grasshopper (born between 5/1/01 and 4/30/03), ULMK A (born between 5/1/99 and 4/30/01), ULMK AA (born between 5/1/97 and 4/30/99), and ULMK AAA (born between 5/1/94 and 4/30/97). We will support a AAA team only if we have enough boys signing up. Please note that the Orefield Athletic Association does have a written policy on "playing up". Read about that policy here.

Some boys try out for North Parkland or South Parkland Lehigh Valley travel teams. We encourage your child to register at Orefield first so that in the event he doesn’t make the travel team he can still play within the organization. If he does make the L.V. team, the registration fee to Orefield will be reimbursed.

T-BALL T-Ball is for players aged 5-6 in Grades K-1. T-Ball is an instructional level that encourages fun and learning. We teach an introduction to baseball and no scores are kept (games always end in a tie). In the first half of the game, players hit off of a Tee and in the second half of the game, the coach pitches.

GRASSHOPPER Grasshopper is for players aged 7-8 in Grades 2-3. The Grasshopper level teaches basic skill development of throwing, fielding, pitching, and batting. This is still a learning stage and no games scores are recorded. In the first half of the game the coach pitches, and in the second half of the game, the players pitch.

A A is for players aged 9-10 in Grades 3-4. The A level teaches intermediate skills development of base running and defense. This is the first level of team competition. Scores are recorded and teams with the best records compete in tournament playoffs. Players pitch full games and base stealing of second and third is allowed, but the runner must wait for the pitch to cross home plate before leaving the base.
Bases are set at 60', pitching mound is 44'.

AA AA level is for players aged 11-12 in Grades 5-6. The AA level teaches advanced skills development of base running and defense. Scores are recorded and teams with the best records compete in tournament playoffs. Full base stealing is allowed with runners able to take leads off base.
Bases are set at 70', pitching mound is 48'.

AAA AAA level is for players aged 13-14-15 in Grades 7-8-9. The AAA teaches advanced skills and competition. Scores are recorded and teams with the best records compete in tournament playoffs.
Bases are set at 80', pitching mound is 54'.
